Line of Communications

A fan-created digital magazine for the Europa series of games.

Dec 4, 2007

One of my favorite wargame series is Europa, which began with Drang Nach Osten (1973), by Frank Chadwick and Paul “Rich” Banner. The last published game was Wavell’s War (2005), by Frank Watson.

The promised next Europa game, Total War, is one of the most infamous never-published wargames. By 2007, it was already a few years late. The Europa Magazine was also in hiatus, leaving the worthy members of the Europa community without an outlet for their collective creativity.

I decided to create a fully-digital magazine, published as PDF files, with articles submitted by Europa fans. This was Line of Communications, which in the end published six quarterly issues. I wrote some articles, but I was mainly involved with editorial and graphical duties.

LoC petered out for lack of submissions, and the last issue was published in December 2008. The six issues may be downloaded below.
